Hi Laura and John,

We currently have 3.5 million ADI's of Firefox Beta but only 1.5 million of them are running the latest Beta.

We did a survey and reached 2000+ users running the old beta builds, 83% of them didn't know they were running the old beta.

I would like to propose running the same method we used to reach our 3.6 users via their start up page. (bug 734197).

It would be great if we can push this live when Firefox Beta 15 goes out on 17th of July. Since this is when we expect to have silent update. This will mean that once users upgrade to Firefox Beta 15, they will always now be up-to-date with minimal to no disruption.

In terms of design, I assume we can use the same design or treatment as bug 734197 (image also attached).

In terms of copy, we can say something like "Your Firefox Beta is out of date."
It would be good if we can also include/mention:
* the latest Beta will have silent update (ie. Get the latest Beta and Your Firefox will always stay up-to-date)
* Always see the latest features.
* Embedding a Survey - If user clicks the 'No Thanks' option to figure out why people do not want to upgrade.
Hey Grace. Just so I'm clear, it sounds like this bug is mainly to update the notification we provided to 3.6 users for the beta audience? So, pretty much a copy-only change then? (I realize the implementation details are different, but they're not covered here.)

Thanks!
Hi John,

Yes, this just requires copy update.
This is targeted to users running "OLD" beta builds (v4-v12).

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Changing this to be a copy bug per comment #3. Matej, let Grace know what else you need to get started.

Thanks!!

Here are some options for a headline and CTA line. Let me know what you think.

[HEADLINE OPTIONS]

This version of Firefox Beta is out of date.

You are not running the latest version.

This is an old version of Firefox Beta.

This version of Firefox Beta is not current.

[COPY OPTIONS]

Stay up to date with the latest features. Upgrade today.

Upgrade today for the latest features and always stay up to date.

Hi John,

I indicated the preferred copy.
Can we see a mock up with the copy options.

Thanks!

Here are the two copy options based on the preferences indicated in comment 6. I made one small change so we're not repeating "version" in the first one:

This version of Firefox Beta is out of date.
Upgrade today and always stay up to date.

Thanks Matej!

John, can we see a mock up with the copy options? Thanks!
Hey John, following up on Grace's comment... I'm going to ask Ty to mock this up real quick.

Ty, can you help us with that?

Grace, is the intention to just see what this looks like before approving, or did you need a polished PSD file to hand off? Trying to see how much work Ty needs to put into it.

Mocked up the new copy. Should we change the "No thanks,..." line to be more inline with the subtext?
You mentioned that the "No thanks.." links to a survey. Is this questionnaire going to be on a separate page / new tab, or will it replace the content within the alert drawer? I would
Forget the "I would" part
As much as I'd love to inject some personality into the "no thanks" links, I wonder if that just makes them more appealing for someone to click. Maybe a simple "No thanks." is all we need here.

Hi Ty and Matej,

-let's just keep it simple and say "No Thanks"

- Leaning towards using the "This version of Firefox is out of date"
- I was wondering if we can take the copy (the bottom of that headline) up a notch and make the copy more aggressive in getting them to upgrade. More like You need to upgrade rather than an option...
- Im thinking maybe just kepeing it general like the 3.6 version. "Upgrade today for the latest speed and security"?
- older versions are also less secure... so we can also use security as one of the main reasons for upgrading
- open to suggestions as well.

Thanks!
Hi Grace, a little confused here. The main reason to get people to update in comment 0 was silent update, so they'd always have the latest version and features, but now there's a bunch of new information in comment 16. We don't have a lot of space, so I think we need to keep this to one really compelling reason/benefit. What's the key thing you'd like to get across?
Hi Matej,

The last piece of silent update hasn't landed yet. So updating the text to be more general (and still be compelling). Security and speed would probably be a good focus, compelling but still pretty general.

THanks
Here are a couple of versions. The first is basically the same as the GA version and the second is a slight tweak. I just want to check to make sure that speed and security is what we should be promising to Beta users.

This version of Firefox Beta is out of date.
Upgrade now for the latest in speed and security.
[DOWNLOAD BUTTON]
No thanks.

This version of Firefox Beta is out of date.
Upgrade now to stay safe and up to speed.

No thanks.
Hi Matej and Ty,

Let's go with

This version of Firefox Beta is out of date.
Upgrade now for the latest in speed and security.
[DOWNLOAD BUTTON]
No thanks.

Given it's the same as the 3.6. This will also save us in localization.
Yay!

Thanks!

I just want to point out that I changed the line slightly to give it a little more urgency ("now" instead of "today"). Even if we switch that back, we'll still need l10n for the headline, which is different than the 3.6 version.
thanks matej.

Ty, can we update the images again with the new copy?

Thanks!
Thanks Ty!
